For Customers who are worried about the rising power bills, the ON Grid or Grid-Tied system is the best available option. This type of system is connected to a local utility grid, and this permits the consumers to synchronize their power demands with the local grid and in case the plant generates more power than required at the unit this excess energy can be fed to the grid which will expedite the Return on Investment which is usually 4 to 5 years. This type of system empowers the consumers to spend almost nothing on the energy bills for a period of 25 years (the agreement with DESCOM – Power Distribution Company (KSEB) is for 25 years). The main drawback of such a system is that they are battery-less and therefore will not operate or generate electricity during a blackout due to safety reasons.

Off-grid solar systems are not connected to the local electricity grid, and therefore require their own source of battery storage solution. These kinds of systems are often employed in remote areas that are too far away from the local electricity grid or to consumers who are looking for a backup instead of DG’s, and therefore must be designed to ensure that the battery capacity is enough to meet the demands of the premises. The main drawbacks of such systems are batteries are expensive and regular maintenance is required.

A hybrid solar power system is the combination of on grid solar system and an off-grid solar system. It has battery backup in it to store power and it also has the ability to feed surplus electricity into the main grid. Because the batteries are connected to the system to store the energy, there is no waste of the excess energy generated on bright sunny days. So, these systems make use of renewable energy in the best way, storing energy on a good day and utilize the stored power on a bad day. The balance is maintained.
